May’s first notable opening is July, a neighbourhood-style restaurant and wine bar from food writer Solynka Dumas and co-founder Julian Oschmann. Former sous chef of 40 Maltby Street Holly Hayes is cooking seasonal Alsatian-inspired dishes, while sommelier Honey Spencer has had a hand in the low-intervantion wine list that opens at £32.

James Close at Rockliff Hall

The first phase of James Close’s role as chef director will be on offer to guests tomorrow, 2nd May with the launch of a series of T-bone steak nights in the hotel’s Clubhouse using cuts from local Yorkshire suppliers cooked over charcoal.

Native at Pensons

Roving restaurant duo Imogen Davis and Ivan Tisdall-Downes are settling into their new home at Pensons on the 1500-acre Netherwood Estate in Hertfordshire with tasting menus and a nose-to-tail Sunday lunch featuring produce from the grounds and local suppliers.

Chez Roux

It’s not long since Le Gavroche closed in early 2024 but Michel Roux is back in the London restaurant mix with Chez Roux in the Palm Court dining room at The Langham hotel. The chef previously ran Roux at the Landau in a separate space within the hotel until it closed under Covid restrictions in 2021 and was declared permanently closed in 2023.

Latitude Wine & Liquor Merchant

Top Leeds wine shop Latitude is moving to new, larger premises this month and opening a tasting room in the shop. With a minimum of 36 covers, service will run 5-11pm Wednesday-Saturday and 12-11pm on Sundays. On offer is a rotating selection of six red, six whites and six ‘others’ alongside cheese boards and charcuterie from Lishman’s.

Simon Rogan’s former executive chef Tom Barnes is on the cusp of opening his much-anticipated first solo restaurant at the end of May in Manchester city centre with a lunch menu at £50 and 12- and 15-course menus at £120 and £165 each.

Santiago Lastra of Mexican fine dining restaurant Kol will open his second restaurant Fonda later this year. Located on Heddon Street in Mayfair, the focus will be on traditional, regionally specific dishes from the Gulf of Mexico to the Pacific coast in an informal setting.

Blacklock Manchester

Ex-Lawyer Gordon Ker will be opening the sixth site of his mini chophouse empire in Manchester. Located in the basement of a former textile warehouse on Peter Street the new restaurant will join the five sites across London serving up sustainably sourced british meats and generously portioned white chocoloate cheesecake with their famously good value pricing and great service.
