'Fabulous menu and still a very personal touch – superb experience,’ one happy visitor felt moved to report after eating at this delightful Italian restaurant, an offshoot of Cin Cin in Hove, Sussex. It occupies the site of the former Bonnie Gull Seafood Shack, and is the sort of no-nonsense place you would love to have on a corner of your neighbourhood – it's clearly popular with a local crowd. Seasonality is to the fore on both the approachable menu and the specials blackboard which, on our visit, listed good things such as risotto of spring peas with citrus-cured trout. Snacks, say cariofi alla giudìa with aïoli (deep-fried artichoke) are simple ideas attractively presented, small dishes are exemplary (perhaps a rabbit croquette with pesto emulsion) and a main course involving fillet of pollock with accompanying peppers alla romana, fried artichokes and roasting jus was just honest Italian cooking. Finish with a well-made pistachio crostatina, flavoured with orange and rose and served with a dollop of crema fresca. Relaxed service is willing to please and there’s a well-chosen list of affordable Italian wines.
